The Scar Tissue Snowball Effect - Seeing the Root Cause Beyond the Surface

“We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it.” Rick Warren

“Things not being as they appear” is a common occurrence at our clinic.

A patient in his late 30s came to us for chronic neck and shoulder pain. While we checked his upper body, we also noticed he had a tight diaphragm. Upon further inquiry about his breathing, he shared that his breathing had not been great, and he had been living this way for decades. He often experienced fatigue, foggy mind, restricted chest-wall expansion, blocked nostrils, and had shallow breathing. He thought he had unknown allergy symptoms as the diagnosis from doctor's office seem to be unclear or also known as "idiopathic".

He was involved in a traumatic accident as a teenager that injured his chest area.  It triggered a lot of latent effects on his respiratory and digestive function such as poor breathing, feeling indigestion, nauseated, bloated, difficulty in getting a restful sleep and clear mind.  It made sense that he had experienced latent effects because anatomically, our diaphragm is located in the middle of the body and separates lungs from the digestive system. Any tension on the diaphragm would have caused a non-optimal function of the corresponding organs.

After we treated his chronic neck and shoulder pain, we applied a proprietary acupuncture needling technique to loosen his diaphragm and chest area. Within three sessions, he regained his ability to breathe naturally, relieving tension in his digestive tract and allowing him to sleep more.  What has been considered an idiopathic allergy issue and indigestions stemmed from an unexpected root cause - fascia adhesion and restrictions.

Fascia adhesion caused by an injury is often mistaken for joint or muscle pain. If left untreated, the fascia adhesions will draw tighter around the muscles, restricting muscle movements and joint mobility, leading to pain and osteoarthritis. In this patient's case, the fascia restricts the motion of his diaphragm. His tight diaphragm caused a ripple effect on the functionalities of his internal organs.

By releasing the adhesion among the connective tissue, we restore muscle mobility, increase space among the connective tissues, and increase the range of motion previously restricted by a healed wound. This result provides a much-needed relief to the client to have a better quality of life.

Exercises, physical overexertion, and repetitive minor wear and tear on muscles can also cause fascia restriction and trigger points to form. Trigger points cause muscles to become inflexible and fascia layers to become constricted and vice versa.

Healthy muscles, fascia, and connective tissues are crucial for overall health and wellness. It can also prolong the life of your cartilage, joints, and spinal discs. When muscles pull and constrict your joints, you probably wear out your cartilage and spinal discs much faster, leading to osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis, bone spurs, etc. Get your musculoskeletal health in check. Outlast your body, and don’t let your body outlast you.

At our clinic, we are proud to deploy an east-meet-west process, combining the wisdom of ancient Chinese medicine with modern medicine. Our process allows us to diagnose and prescribe a treatment to uproot the cause, from the inner workings of the internal organ system to the musculoskeletal system that connects skin, fascia, muscle, and bone.
